Since articulated concrete blocks, or ACBs, protect the subsoil and the bottom levels of concrete, it only makes sense that it is not just a simple matter of pouring concrete. Instead, the ACBs typically need to be designed by an engineer, who can make recommendations after determining the: 

  • Slope of the area that needs the concrete

  • Force of the water that exists or is expected to occur due to construction 

  • Total expected stress the unit will need to endure                                        


Geotextiles can best be defined as one or more pieces of fabric that are buried in the ground in order to provide additional security for the soil, absorb water to protect the underlying soil or nearby growth, or assist with other aspects of erosion control. It is important to note that not just any fabric will be effective. Although the technology that produces geotextiles in recent years has improved dramatically, the ideas behind the process are thought to date back to the time of pharaohs. 

Fortunately, there are different options available to choose from for the modern construction site. For instance, a woven geotextile is often the most appropriate choice for construction areas like roads and parking lots because they are capable of withstanding significant amounts of weight without incurring damage. Woven geotextiles are used when filtering water or soil is not necessary.  

If there is already water present at the site where the fabric will be used, filtering the fluid and soil will be necessary. In that instance, an engineer will frequently recommend a non-woven geotextile. Since it is a permeable item, separation of the applicable substances is often possible, as is drainage of unnecessary or new water flow. 

In conclusion, erosion control is a crucial aspect in the construction field due to the negative impact that altering the soil can have on wildlife, water use, and the physical environment.
